The Cycle Kitchen
Northeast Pennsylvania’s do-it-yourself bicycle shop, the Cycle Kitchen is part tool library, part bicycle thrift store, and part community hub. Join us in Connell Park, South Scranton, past the playground and next to the pump track.
Open to all ages, there’s plenty to learn and do at the Cycle Kitchen, and no prior skills or knowledge are required!

Closed until the 2026 season begins in May! We are working with our volunteers to coordinate what days we will be open over the next year, please check back or sign up for our emails to be the first to know.
-
During open shop hours, you can:
-Shop our selection of lightly used, refurbished, and as-is bicycles and parts
-Rent stand time to work on your own bicycle projects with the help of our volunteers
-Participate in our “Bike Buck” program, where volunteering nets $10/hr in store credit towards anything in the shop.
-Help with shop projects
-Make a donation of money or lightly used bicycles and related equipment.
-
Bike stock is totally dependent on donations, since no bikes are purchased new. Our volunteers are skilled at helping you meet a bike to your needs, too, so while we may not have the latest and greatest “gravel bike” or other industry trend, we can often help you build a capable bike that can ride on gravel or tackle whatever else you’d like.
Our stock changes constantly, and you’d be surprised by the range of bikes donated to us.
-
We like to say “You can get a bike without paying any money, but they aren’t free.”
While you’ll find many bikes with with suggested donations or sliding scale prices, we also recognize that not everyone can afford a bike, and we want to make cycling accessible to everyone regardless of income. If you can’t (or don’t want to!) pay for a bike, you can always ask us about how to volunteer to earn one instead!
-
Unfortunately, no. We are a purely do-it-yourself shop, and while we will always help empower you with the tools and knowledge to handle whatever project you’re tackling we do NOT provide labor in the same way a full service bike shop does. For that, there are many capable bicycle shops in the area.
-
Yes! The Cycle Kitchen runs on your donations, and we are always grateful for anything you can provide. That said, there are several things to think about when donating a bicycle to us:
-Do NOT leave bicycles or other donations unattended on days the Cycle Kitchen is not open.
-Consider the safety of our volunteers, many of whom are youth, when choosing to donate a bicycle. We may have to refuse donation of rusty, yard kept, mildewy, or otherwise unsafe bicycles if we deem them dangerous to store or work on.
When in doubt, reach out! We are happy to answer any questions about donating.
-
As a 501(c)3 non-profit, donations are tax deductible.

Don’t know a lot about bikes? The Cycle Kitchen is a great place to learn! Not interested in that aspect, but still want to help with our mission? Non-bike volunteer help is always needed in areas like organizing, painting and crafts for shop beautification, and help with the surrounding park.
