About

History

The Anthracite Bike Coalition origin is from a local group of cyclists who met volunteering for the local Lackawanna Heritage Bike Tour and Festival, promoting the beginnings of the Lackawanna Heritage Trail. We found that we enjoyed our company and continued to ride as well as volunteer for this as well as other organizations. The organization has continue to operate, with our yearly events like the Cranksgiving Food Drive, St. Patrick's Day Parade ride as well as promotion of Safe Roads and Riding skills, providing as well as supporting local free bike share program in partnership with Lackawanna County, Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority.

Who we are

Northeast Pennsylvania has some of the most picturesque scenes all around us. Our back roads are designed to be rolling. This naturally leads us to be a wonderful area for cycling. The concern is our safety. While the team at ABC, are all long time riders, we recognize that riding the road is scary and can be dangerous. This is where we realized a need for local advocacy especially with the continued development of local trails, climate change, exercise initiatives, and the advent of inexpensive ebike, hitting the market. We realized there was a opportunity to expand our offerings to assist the expanding cycling community.
